Joshua Waugh

I am an Australian cinematographer and photographer working across documentary, commercial, and branded storytelling. With a foundation and traditional training in photography, my work is shaped by a strong understanding of image, composition, light, and narrative, allowing me to create visuals that feel both deliberate and instinctive. I pay close attention to every element within the frame, continually refining the image until it reaches its full potential.

I began my career in stills and editorial environments, where I developed a sensitivity to light, form, and human presence that continues to influence how I approach motion. Much of my work focuses on people within their environments; athletes, craftspeople, and communities, captured with an emphasis on atmosphere, authenticity, and a strong sense of light and place.

Drawing from experience across filming, editing, and photography, I approach cinematography with a clear visual structure while remaining responsive to the unscripted moments that define documentary storytelling. My aim is to balance cinematic scale with a genuine sense of intimacy, creating imagery that feels grounded, human, and enduring.

Alongside my motion work, I continue to work with film photography, drawn to its tactile process and the intentional approach it demands. I am passionate about creating imagery that carries weight and meaning, and I am always keen to meet new people over coffee to discuss ideas, collaborations, and future projects.
